19.11.2015

The new FRÝDA shopping centre welcomed its first customers on Thursday,13 November 2014. On the first four days, the shopping centre on the banks of the Ostravice River had more than 80, 000 visitors, who were treated to the programme prepared for the grand opening as well as sales offered by individual merchants.

The first four days at FRÝDA were characterised by crowds of people in the passageways and stores,a colourful programme with many contests, performances by local cultural and sports groups and lots of gifts, vouchers and small favours for young and old alike. ‘We were pleasantly surprised by the interest of customers - it exceeded all of our expectations. Based on our counts,a total of 82, 896 people visited FRÝDA on 13-16 November, which is about 30% higher than similar projects’,says Petra Bujnošková,director of FRÝDA,adding:‘We set the record on Thursday, when more than 24, 000 visited - a figure that amounts to 40% of the population of Frýdek-Místek’.

The nearly 15, 000 m2 of floor space holds 65 stores, including restaurants, cafés and fast food,a 5D cinema and many other services such as a travel agency, banks,a currency exchange,a shoe repair and key maker,a beauty salon and much more. ‘We believe that the centre will provide locals convenient shopping for name brand clothes and other goods they previously had to travel to Ostrava to find’,says Bohumil Mach, the CEO of the development company GEMO OLOMOUC.

The centre also features a relaxation area, and free WiFi will soon be available. ‘The majority of retail units were already leased by the opening date of the centre. Only two percent of rental space is still available’,said Petra Bujnošková.

Construction of the shopping centre was launched in November 2013 and was finished exactly on time twelve months later. The project of the development firms GEMO OLOMOUC and TK Development ranks along with the neighbouring Polárka Hall as one of the largest projects in Frýdek-Místek over the past 20 years. ‘The shopping centre is located at an attractive site on the banks of the Ostravice River and should therefore offer town residents more than just new shopping possibilities’,explains Bohumil Mach, adding:’We would like to continue the tradition of the river being an attractive zone and an interesting meeting point. Landscaping was an important part of the project to ensure that the site remains a popular destination in the future for relaxation and for cultural and sporting events for both children and adults’.
