The Biomedical Centre and University Medical Centre of Charles University’s Faculty of Medicine in Plzeň received an honourable mention in the prestigious 2014 Plzeň Region Building of the Year public competition. The jury of experts acknowledged the building for its ‘simple and modern architectural design and highly efficient organization of the complex internal connections in building’.
The investor is Charles University in Prague represented by Charles University’s Medical Faculty in Plzeň, the applicant and the designer is AS Projekt, spol. s r.o. and the general contractor is GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o.
Of the total of 39 buildings entered in the 2014 Plzeň Region Building of the Year competition, the jury of experts nominated 22 for the next round. The jury subsequently awarded four main prizes (by category: 1. new construction, 2. building reconstruction, 3. transport and civil engineering projects, 4. sports and recreation facilities) and four honourable mentions.
The competition is sponsored by the Plzeň Region and the City of Plzeň in collaboration with the Plzeň District Chamber of Commerce, the Czech Chamber of Certified Engineers and Technicians, the Association of Building Entrepreneurs of the Czech Republic and the Society of Architects. The competition is held under the auspices of Plzeň Region President Václav Šlajs and Plzeň Mayor Martin Zrzavecký, with the Plzeň District Chamber of Commerce providing professional supervision.
All projects entered in the competition are presented on a travelling panel exhibition displayed at publicly accessible locations throughout the region.
